Fourbechies: To be honest, we had to look at Google Maps to see in which direction we had to drive to be able to visit the national winner Aurillac. Fourbechies is namely to be found in the shadow of the better known Froidchapelle and over there in this quiet little village an unique achievement was set by a mosaic coloured cock B17-1074522. He was sent to Aurillac by his boss as only one from the loft and he didn’t disappoint. Alexandre explains: ”Seen that the moulting was already well advanced I divided my 8 last cocks over Aurillac and Perpignan. The partition was a bit unfair…1 to Aurillac and the others to Perpignan. On the day of basketing I showed all my cocks their hen and instead off taking away the hen of my ‘522’, I left her be with him during 3 days. Out of the horse stables I threw in a bit of straw on the floor of the loft. The ‘522’ could do whatever he wanted and shifted every little blade of straw into his box…apparently he found his motivation in this to be able to leave the entire platoon of 5,853 Aurillac racers behind.
I was only watching for about 10 minutes when I saw him coming out of the right direction. When clocked, he was immediately at number 1 and I thought by myself….the fanciers in the back of the country, where I have to give in until 100km, will get in front of it…I will have another look on the internet over one hour and when I did this I was flabbergasted to see that he was still at the top of the list.
Pigeon sport as a hobby
Joel, mason as profession, has pigeon sport as a pure hobby. Homemade lofts, without any luxury but very solid, have a team of 11 widow cocks whereof on the day of basketing of Perpignan only 8 were left. The widow cocks are being raced according the classic widowhood system and could breed in March during 5 days.
As food there is ‘4-season mixture’ from Versele-Laga on the menu, only the last 5 days before basketing this is being changed into ‘Nr.12’ from Van Robaeys.
In a medical way I cured 3 weeks ago against ornithes and after Valence there was a treatment against trichomoniases. And next to this only a drop disappears in the eyes on a regular base and that’s it.
The base of his colony is built up with pigeons from Alain Dermonne, Froidchapelle; Depasse-Lardenoye, Wagnelée; André Regnier, Pesche and Roland and Guy Nihoul, Senzeilles.
With Joel it has been proven once again that with modest means big results can be set in our so beloved pigeon sport. This it so beautiful…..
Once again a big congratulation from the entire Herbots team
