Leutenez Eddy & Maarten (Ruien) Top performances at the highest level with ‘Het Bolleken’ as a foundation
02 Mar 2025
As we sat down at the table in the spacious living room of Maarten Leutenez's newly built home, we realised we had one of the very best fanciers in Belgium sitting in front of us. Maarten left his job as a nurse almost a decade ago and concentrated fully on pigeon racing. A "bold" step if we may put it that way because as the father of a young family, it is not easy to take such an important decision. But so many years later, we are convinced that Maarten is glad he took this decision at the time. Pigeon sport combined with "quality time" for the family is the ideal formula for him.
Those who know Maarten know that he will not shout his results from the rooftops, modesty suits him well, but if we analyse the record of the last few seasons, we can only conclude that the pigeons have been played "extremely hard" here. First in Kruishoutem and now in Ruien. National victories, national KBDB ace pigeons, provincial victories you name it...you will undoubtedly find it on the palmares of the Leutenez pigeons.
Dad Eddy laid the foundation of all this and is still enjoying it daily. Thanks to Eddy's experience and Maarten's "fine tuning" of the system, they score at a very high level. The class of pigeons and fancier(s) apparently knows no bounds here.
The highlights of the last 2 seasons are not the least:
1st National Chateauroux 13 852 youngsters - fastest of 16 183 pigeons
1st Interprov. Orléans 7 685 youngsters - fastest of 9 891 pigeons
1st and 2nd Interprov. Fontenay 3 298 youngsters - fastest of 6 225 pigeons
2nd National Ace G.M.D. youngsters with "New Oscar "
8th National Ace L.D. yearlings - on 5 national races - 2023
Mentioned in passing...the number of national victories amounts to 8 namely:
1st National Bourges 1988
1st National Royan 1990
1st National La Souterraine 1991
1st National Brive 1993
1st National La Souterraine 1999
1st National Argenton 2018
1st National Chateauroux 2023
All this was spiced up by the conquest of 5 x 2nd Nationals (3 x La Souterraine, Narbonne and Limoges) and 1 x 3rd National, to finish with the following KBDB pigeon ace titles!
1st National Ace G.M.D. yearlings KBDB '97 with "Milo "
1st National Ace All-round KBDB 2017 with "Trapke "
2nd National Ace G.M.D. youngsters KBDB 2023 with "New Oscar "
3rd National Ace All-round KBDB 2017 with "Alaphilippe".
When you see all this, the question arises as to how it all came about, and the answer we've come up with, briefly and succinctly, is the strong breeding line of 'Het Bolleken'.
The story of 'Het Bolleken' has already been described several times, but the great thing about it is that to this day - and fortunately for Eddy and Maarten - there is no end in sight.
"Het Bolleken" won 1st prize at the Interprov. Tours 2.257d., but what is even more impressive is his breeding record. His offspring won:
1st-1st-2nd-7th-9th-10th-12th-15th-... national prize and 2nd-3rd-3rd-7th-8th-12th-... national ace pigeon KBDB! We wonder who in Belgium has such a "breeding pearl" in their loft.
We would like to introduce you to "Eagle José" (B19-4190339), a half-sister to "Het Bolleken".
She is mated to "White Eye Oscar" (B20-4223633), a grandson of "Het Bolleken" and a full brother to the 1st National Argenton "Oscar", his parents being..:

Racing strong with the pigeons is one thing but gaining references on other lofts is another. However, the Leutenez pigeons have this too. They rarely disappoint. Take a good look at the reference list below:
One of the very best pigeons ever to have soared through the Belgian skies is "De Flup" of Herbots Gebroeders. "De Flup" won 1st National ace pigeon L.D. Well the mother of "The Flup" is original Leutenez hen "B19-4190301". She is inbred and granddaughter "Het Bolleken".
The best old pigeon in Belgium over 6 national competitions is "Roucky" from Desmons-Wibaut-Lemoine. Roucky's dam is an original Eddy & Maarten Leutenez hen, namely "B20-4223612" - sired by "Sister Bolleken".
