Nico Fourneau has the fastest pigeon of the province of West Flanders on the national race from Vierzon

21 Aug 2024

Moen - Last weekend Nico Fourneau achieved an impressive feat by winning the first provincial prize with his hen on the national flight from Vierzon. The pigeon with ring number BE23-3086131, named Annie, landed at a speed of 1200.01 metres per minute, proving to be the fastest pigeon of the entire province of West Flanders. She left behind 403 yearlings and old birds as well as 3,105 youngsters, yearlings and old birds together.

Annie

The winning hen, Annie, takes her name from the wife of aviary builder Albert. In addition to her provincial triumph, she classified 332nd nationally against 5,780 yearlings and old birds. Annie accomplished this remarkable feat while sitting on a nest with a five-day-old youngster.

Nico has maintained a small but strong team of hens, which reside outside in a small aviary, for the past three years. His hens, which fly with regular partners, have proved that even a limited team can ensure great success.

Strong Provincial Result

Despite the early pigeons not coming from Nico's region, his racing team achieved an impressive result. In the flight from Vierzon in the province of West Flanders, Nico's team performed as follows:
Vierzon Provincial
403 old birds and yearlings
1-4-5-7-8-13-58-85-116-212 (9/10)
2,702 young birds
24-41-48-49-105-119-136-138-139-142-176-181-198-207-216-267-276-277-304-313-336-349-393-394-446-471-524-604-605-715-753-795-797-... (33/52)

Pedigree of Annie

Annie comes from an excellent bloodline. Her father is a pigeon of the late Michel Nachtegaele (Mullem) and Roger Baele (Zwalm), who is also father of a pigeon with Geert Maroy, which, among others, flew 15th national at Limoges against 15,547 pigeons and 14th national at Périgueux against 3,783 pigeons. Annie's mother is a sister of ‘Super 040’, a line that has a patent on good offspring.
‘Super 040’ himself finished five times in the top 52 national on long-distance races, his brother ‘Super 098’ also flew 3 times top-100 national.
‘Super 040’ descends on the father's side from pigeons by Joseph D'hulster (Waarmaarde) and Gevaert-Lannoo (Deinze), on the mother's side from Jo Bauters' famous “Fabian”-line.
