NOUWEN – PAESEN FROM PEER 2 NAT VALENCE 7,974 OLD BIRDS

The long distance and extreme long distance blood from tandem Nouwen-Paesen is already there for many years now, 50 years are they present within pigeon sport. At the moment it is especially son Dirk who takes care of the pigeons and training and father Jaak does the selection of the best pigeons by his years of experience. The season of 2019 already brought a godsend which they didn’t expect, Valence was raced with their two year old widow cock 5096081-2017 who won the 1st Provincial against 1,375 old birds and 2nd National against 7,974 old birds. This takes their provincial victories onto the account of 20 (!) in total and this after their super season in 2018 with 2nd Provincial Libourne, 3rd Provincial Tulle, 4th Provincial Perpignan and 5th Provincial Barcelona. The winner has super blood in his genes, his father was a top pigeon on his own at Rob Nijs and became 3rd National Ace bird ELD KBDB, the mother is a direct daughter of ‘Super 48’. The Golden Wing winner on Barcelona at Nouwen-Paesen and their best Barcelona racer. This super star takes care of excellent off spring in England but also over here.

The winner was unexpected as this was in fact the preparation for Marseille where they wanted to hit hard with this team. Also on the loft where he stays they need full summer to be good.

The season starts over again after Perpignan

For us the resting season is as important as the season itself. The pigeons have to get to the moulting in an optimal way otherwise you can’t pick the fruits the season after. So after the last race from Perpignan all the pigeons are being purified and are being coupled once more, we let them raise one youngster and then they can go into moulting. Only the best widow cocks can have a bit more luxury and get 2 good hens to get youngsters out of them quicker.

In this moulting period they get a good moulting mixture until the last pin is thrown. Afterwards we switch onto 60 % Moulting – 40 % Barley. Once they got through the moulting we don’t keep the pigeons inside anymore, they can fly 2 to 3 times a week.

When February is there, the widow cocks are being coupled again, we leave them breeding for 8 days and then the season can start of for them. In March we look forward to the nice weather so we can train them ourselves to 120km/ This is also what we do with the late youngsters of the year before.

They train once a day until mid of May, when the long distance season is ahead we let them train extra and this twice a day.

Preparation Valence winner

The widow cocks always have some short distance races, this year it was 2x 150km, 1x 200km and then 3 training races from the East to prepare them for the Rhone Valley races. He raced then 1x 290km, 1x 340km and 1x 390km which was an ideal preparation for him as it showed out to be. After that he raced 2x middle distance in the province of Limburg and got 3 weeks of rest until Agen. After that they do Montélimar and Marseille. The other racing team has Agen and Narbonne as their 2 exams.

The widow cocks from Barcelona do 2x 150km, 2x 200km, 4 x 350km, Chateauroux and then one more Mettet ( 115km ) +- 10 days before basketing for Barcelona. For the hens this is the same preparation until 350km, afterwards they do Vierzon and Limoges before they are being coupled so they will be basketed on 10 days breeding or end breeding or small youngsters. The last 10 days they are being tossed extra at 50 to 100km. The pigeons that get home fresh on Barcelona can also take their chance on Perpignan.

Do you motivate pigeons on widowhood?

On the regular races not at all, just getting home quietly is the message over here. At arrival there is always their hen waiting and get a few hours together.

For Barcelona they get to see them the entire day at the day of basketing and can do whatever they want. At arrival they can stay together until the day after but they take care of it that they do recuperate well.

As you see, with all the best pigeons it is all about the “Super 48”. This top pigeon comes out of the best old strains from Nouwen – Paesen and is still doing great in its off spring. When a ‘strange’ strain is added it has to be a real top pigeons that has set results on his own.

The pigeons don’t get a lot the entire year around, we don’t like a cure just before the beginning of a season. That’s why we like to sit it out a bit and gave them only end of May a tricho pill when the long distance races were coming up.

During the season we always consult Raf Herbots when something is going on and we only give products from Herbots and Herbovet. This is usually Apple Vinegar, Herbochol Plus, Herbobeets and Herbosol.
