The Hooymans WVL team win 2nd National Argenton against 3,375 yearlings and old birds
03 Sep 2024
Desselgem - On the Argenton national flight, the Hooymans WVL team once again demonstrated its class this season. With their NL21-1302083 hen, they not only won the first provincial prize for old pigeons in the province of West Flanders, but also achieved an impressive second place at national level, against 3,375 old pigeons and yearlings.
Successful flight of Argenton
The winning pigeon, named "083", is a checkered hen with white eyes, played on the widowhood system. This beautiful pigeon already proved her qualities earlier this season by winning the 9th national prize against 3,949 old birds on the difficult Brive flight. What makes this pigeon even more special is that she is a half-sister to "Gregory", the winner of the 1st National Prix Libourne KBDB in 2023 at Team Hooymans BE in Mol.
A solid pedigree for winner "083
"083" has clearly inherited class from her parents. His sire, "Peter", was an excellent racer at the Hooymans NL team in Wijk and Aalburg before finding his place in the Hooymans Pigeons breeding loft in Kerkdriel. The quality of this line is confirmed by "Mighty Mike", the brother of "Peter". Not only did "Mighty Mike" prove to be an excellent racer, but he also produced the 1st Issoudun National Sector III in the Netherlands this season against 8,834 pigeons for the Hooymans NL team at Wijk in Aalburg.
The dam of "083" is directly descended from the famous pigeons "Harry" and "Birdy", which further underlines the strong genetic base of this winning pigeon.
A winning team led by Kristof Verstraete
Under the guidance of Kristof Verstraete, the Hooymans WVL team is enjoying a phenomenal season, with several provincial victories and a number of places of honour at national level. The provisional highlight of the season was 'Anja's' first national win at Tulle for yearlings.

The team, which has been using the Aidi mix since this season, values mutual cooperation and the exchange of knowledge to achieve great performances together.

Strategy and cooperation, the keys to success
The team members at the various Hooymans lofts argue a lot with each other about how to approach things, and try to push each other to reach great heights. This strategic cooperation and the continuous improvement of training methods and nutrition, such as the introduction of the Aidi mix, have contributed to this season's impressive results.
The Hooymans Pigeons loft, a source of quality
The Hooymans Pigeons loft, renowned for its quality, plays a crucial role in the success of the teams. The young pigeons are distributed between the different sites: Team Hooymans BE, Team Hooymans WVL, Team Hooymans NL and Jan, J. Hooymans' own loft. The best racers return to the breeding loft, where their youngsters are tested in all the racing loft. Thanks to this approach, quality quickly becomes visible.
With this season's impressive performances, the Hooymans WVL team has once again proved that it is one of the best teams in pigeon racing.
The entire Herbots team would like to congratulate Jan Hooymans and his teams once again on their fantastic performances this season!
