Van Eynde – Goovaerts (Putte) won 2 x 1st National (z) Sancoins

02 Jul 2024

In the national race from Sancoins we have a double winner for the province of Antwerp, with the Van Eynde – Goovaerts tandem taking victory in both the old and yearling races. They not only won 2 x 1st Provincial but also 2 x 1st National (z) and achieved a fantastic series of 8 pigeons that came home to each other very quickly. After the race from Sancoins, Marc & Joseph were among the yearlings who had already performed excellently this year with a provisional first ace pigeon over 3 national races.

Only with a team of hens

This year they started with about 25 hens that did not breed during the winter period and always stayed in the aviary until the beginning of March. They were used last season immediately after the season and paired with their cock for the coming year. Marc let them breed there for a few days and yet the couples that kept coming to that position were removed from the loft so that at the end there were only a few couples left in the loft that had to mate. In March they paired the racing hens again to breed for a few days and so the season could start for them.

During the day the pigeons are always kept in an aviary with windbreak mesh at the front, but as the season progresses they are increasingly allowed to enter the resting loft during the day so that motivation remains stimulated. During the winter period they stayed here day and night without any problem.

In terms of training, there is a major problem with the birds of prey here, which makes training at home almost impossible in the beginning. That's why Marc took the pigeons away very often so that they only came home and had to go in immediately. Now that the season is underway, the attacks are still there, but they can no longer catch the yearlings, they now fly out of sight for 20 to 30 minutes and when they come home they are allowed in straight away. The rhythm for the middle distance was even 2x per drop so that they could still be flown in and now this has been reduced to 1x per day.

On the day of basketing, the cock is shown for one hour and then they are separated, they are then given a bath and in the afternoon they are well fed before being basketed. When they return home, they are allowed to sit in front of the cocks and they are allowed to recover for an hour before joining the cocks. Now they usually stay together with the cocks for between 2 and 3 hours, at 5 pm they are normally separated. Each hen has a permanent partner, I do not play with 2 hens and 1 cock.

In terms of nutrition, they get Vanrobaeys Revolution and in the morning they always get Morning Mix from Patagoon. There is never anything about feeding supplements here. They only receive products from Schroeder – Tollisan or Röhnfried. Especially Hexenbier, Avidress, Carni – Speed and finally Rotosal that goes into the drinking water on the day of basketing. From Schroeder Tollisan we mainly give Tolyamin Forte and CMK. We use the yellow drops every week as disinfection in the area of tricho. If a medical problem arises, we either go for a check-up with Vincent Schroeder or Stijn Rans.
