Broeckx – Van Hees ( Oud – Turnhout ) 1st Int.Nat Agen Yearlings

The 1st international flight of the 2023 season in the extreme long distance was Agen, the yearlings had a smooth flight with good speeds. This after a heavy period of headwind for several weeks. Not only the national winner but also the international winner can be found in Belgium in the lofts of Broeckx – Van Hees in Oud-Turnhout. Leo & Maria have already won so much in their pigeon career, but they had not yet succeeded in a national victory. This completes the picture for them.

The widowers normally don't do winter breeding, but forced by a visit from the marten to the breeding loft, the old racers were coupled to the old racing hens in order to have enough youngsters. The yearlings, on the other hand, only saw a hen during training just before the start of the season. The preparation went well and the daily training sessions were solid, the cocks usually train twice a day while the hens only come out in the evening. When basketing the cocks do not see a hen or saucer and they are taken away from the loft. When they return home, the hen is ready and they can always stay together long enough. 

This is slightly different with the racing hens and they are often allowed to stay together until the evening or the next morning.

In the winter period when the racing pigeons are not breeding, they mainly get Beyers Gaby Vandenabeele mixture and they also get this mixture the first days at the beginning of the week. Afterwards they are raised with Widowhood Beyers and this usually the last 2 days. An own candy mixture is added to this with small seeds and peanuts. When they return home there is always honey ready in the drinking water and the pigeons are usually treated against tricho once a month for 2 days. There is a regular check-up at the vet who lives just around the corner and the pigeons were treated for 4 days before the season for the airways. The pigeons from Agen were given ¼ flagyl the week before to certainly exclude everything.
