Guido Loockx from Tessenderlo takes provincial victory over Argenton

In Tessenderlo, Limburg, several fanciers live within a stone's throw of each other and the competition is very tough. The 2022 season is running smoothly for Guido Loockx, the pigeons are in order just like last year and he has already won his provincial victory. His old hen won the 1st provincial against 858 old pigeons on the very tough Argenton in a 35°C race. In addition, there were several other top 10 listings this season, so we notice that “Mr.Pantani” is again very strong. The best pigeons here still have the old strain of “Pantani” – “Kai – Mook” in them.
Both systems of widowhood are applied here
The racing team is raced partly on classic widowhood and partly on total widowhood. It is mainly yearlings that you can still get crazy enough that fly the total widowhood while the older pigeons usually fly classic widowhood. The permanent number 1 among the old pigeons is a hen that has no fixed place in the loft and also no permanent partner, but she will come soon so we will not do anything extra about it.
Everything was coupled on February 1st and they were allowed to go as usual, a month later everything was cleaned up and they were ready to start. The racing pigeons were darkened immediately afterwards from 1 March to 15 April in function of the national races. An important item in the spring is barley, they get a lot of it in order to start as pure as possible.
In the spring, when the pigeons are training, they even get a lot of barley and they still fly 1h30 to 1h45 daily. A solid basic condition that is maintained daily during the season. My pigeons now train much more than in the past. The results were good then and now they are too, so you see.The difference is to do it during the day, the hens can relax in the aviary while the cocks don't get the chance. I find them a bit too restless because of other pigeons that fly out here. These can therefore only enjoy the aviary for a bath and in the spring and autumn.
What do you do when basketing?
Nothing, I have a large squad to prepare and there is no room to show another partner. The team of total widowhood also simply goes into the basket. When they return home, they can come together after the flight is over, so that all pigeons are largely at home and there are no problems between couples.
In the beginning they only stay together for a short time, but once they race on national flights it is already honor that the pigeons are home, so I leave them together until the next morning.
Care
After the season, the racing pigeons are always given a full house of Reaming Geling until their last pen has been changed. I find that if you switch too quickly to a lighter power supply here, this pen will not form completely nicely. So until the end of December / beginning of January they moult, after that they have a lighter diet with a lot of barley in it, as mentioned above. In the season itself I use the Beyers Galaxy mixtures and for the last 2 days I only use Beyers Galaxy Energy to which I add hempseed and peeled sunflower seeds. They can eat as much as they want and the bowl is emptied after each feeding.
As extra support, I use Mariën's condition powder and vitamins every week. In the field of tricho and respiratory tract, I generally have few problems with this and interventions are only taken if necessary.
