Jos Das from Lummen is double on Gueret
15 Jul 2022
The national race from Gueret was a direct hit for Jos Das from Lummen in Limburg. He had 14 pigeons in the basket and these pigeons are all on the provincial results. With the old birds it is his best old cock who wins the 1st Provincial against 691 old birds. Another widower wins against 1,034 pigeons in the yearlings, but this topper is not ready for his test either. Both cocks fell together on the sputnik over a distance of 590km and in severe weather conditions. After the provincial victory from Auxerre, his counter for this season stands at 3 provincial victories and this just before the week of his 75th birthday.
System widowers
The widowers get a well-deserved rest in the winter, but then they have to work hard for Jos in the season itself. In March they are coupled for the first time and they are allowed to breed, one then incubates for 6 days, the other for a maximum of 10 days. Before the period, the training sessions have already resumed and they usually fly around 11 a.m. when it's a bit warmer, now in the season they train twice a day and still easily complete 45 minutes. If they fly well they eat well, if they eat well they are healthy and so the circle is complete.
What is important on the day of basketing is training, here too they come out twice a day. Around 4 pm the last time, around 5 pm they come in, they can still eat well and around 6 pm Jos starts preparing them.
The hens are always shown but never for long, the first pigeons sit together for 5 minutes and when we are working on the last pigeons we are already fifteen minutes further. When they return home, they only meet briefly at first, but from the national races they stay together until the evening. During a very difficult flight I sometimes leave them together until the next morning. Whatever is done with a week of rest, not forgetting the hen and keeping the motivation high is important here. So here too it is shown for a long time to keep the cocks going.
When it comes to feeding, Jos keeps it with 50% Barley and 50% Clearing Geling together with Sports Mixture, which is then used with garlic oil with brewer's yeast or vitamins. When you return home, electrolytes are also added to the drinking water along with tea. During the raising he only starts with this for the last 2 days, before that they always get the same mixture (50% Barley and 50% Moulting mixture together with Sport mixture). The last 2 days it is mainly 50% Sport and 50% Moulting and the barley disappears and the last day 50% Turbo Energy Matador and 50% Sport Hoebrechts.
For the medical story we can be very short, Jos has been going to Ectors in Herk de Stad for years and just follows his advice. He is regularly checked but this season they have had nothing so far.
