The last race with the old pigeons nationally was a flight from Chateauroux for the 2024 season. The pigeons had nice flying weather and we found the winner in the lofts of Jozef Keirsmakers from Nijlen. He had 2 yearling hens in the basket that both flew top. His first pigeon won the 1st National Chateauroux of 1,723 pigeons and his second pigeon won the 49th National. Great for Jozef with the small basket.
The winner was not ready for her test piece and also won the 30th National Argenton one week earlier.
Jozef is mainly a fancier who focuses on the middle distance and then takes several pigeons to the national flights. Cocks and hens are normally always raced here in classic widowhood. There were not many hens from the 2023 season that were good enough for him, so he simply played the best yearling hens among the young pigeons.
In the spring the pigeons are allowed to train well and are raced twice before they go to Quievrain. If they train well at home, the condition will come after a few matches. The rhythm increases from May when the middle distance is approaching and then they train at home twice a day.
They do not come together during basketing and after the flight they are allowed together briefly at first and then always longer and longer.
