Not  total widowhood  system anymore

We tried it all but total widowhood is only possible for us with the year birds but this year we race everything on the classic widowhood system.

The cocks could raise two youngsters in February and were being darkened until the 1st of May. The hens were coupled half of March and let them feed youngsters until they were 14 days and afterwards we took them out so they wouldn’t lay for a second time. These were being darkened a month longer than the cocks.

As this year was a special year we didn’t show the hens their partners on the first races. We try to keep the focus and form on the national races. The cocks could see their hen at arrival as they aren’t into the system of widowhood that fast.

In a matter of training it is the case that they always train in the morning, especially in Spring they have to train well. Afterwards it is less important, they have to maintain this but don’t have to train for a full hour anymore.

But once the hens are on schedule we try to toss the pigeons on Wednesdays until 55km. They get home easily, did have to work a bit, get to see their partner for half an hour and eat very well after that until basketing. Keeping them busy is the message…After arrival of a race they can recuperate first during 1 to 2 hours and get a grit mixture. Then they can leave the resting loft and get to see their cocks until early evening. We think that recuperation is very important and a hen is already recuperated a lot in that short period of time. To see her partner afterwards is equally important but we found our system works out the best for us.

They don’t do this with the cocks, their box goes open, a nest dish is being showed and they are being basketed. At arrival they do get to see their hen for 1 to 2 hours.

How do you guide them ?

As food the hens get Aidi Girl Power until the for last day. On the day of basketing we switch onto Aidi Racingmix 3 and candy. At arrival they get Aidi Racinggmix 2 and proteins ( Immunol Schroeder – Tollisan ) over the food. We feed the cocks a bit more heavy with Aidi Racingmix 2 during the week and the last few days Aidi Racingmix 3 with candy and peanuts. The youngsters get the Galaxy mixtures from Beyers. During the week we give as side products especially these from the Rohnfried gamma, especially Carni Speed – Usne Gano – Avridress ( especially before the season ) – Hexenbier – Rotasal and Blitzform are the ones that are given the most over here.

In a medical way they get a cure against trichomoniases during 5 days in March and we maintain this by giving yellow drops from the moment the races are up. Our lofts are set in a good way so we don’t have to do much against airway diseases.

Marc & Joseph a big congratulation with these top results from the entire HERBOTS TEAM.
