Verreckt – Rutten – Deplae win 1st Provincial Argenton 2,456 yearlings

08 Jul 2022

In Tessenderlo, the Verreckt – Rutten – Deplae trio hit the mark on Argenton, against the wind and masses they clocked a yearling cock who flew far ahead in the provincial competition and achieved 8th place nationally against 20,443 yearlings. Once again proof of their rock-solid foundation that they can build on. In the next national race from Issoudun they won silver and bronze with the old birds and 2 x top 10 provincial with the yearlings. Their racing team is in order, that much is certain. Their counter of provincial victories under this name is currently at 9, but in this condition there will certainly be something more.

Fixed system on total widowhood

Total widowhood has been played here for years, in total the team is about 70 and most of them have permanent partners. The pigeons are coupled in mid-February and are given free choice. Those pairs are allowed to mate and they are allowed to breed for a maximum of 6 days because on March 5 everything will separate again. Then there are pigeons that have not yet done anything, but that is no problem.

When there are pigeons that come very well and their partner much less, it is decided not to race the partner anymore so that the motivation remains present. So watch out for the fancier to keep an eye on all this.

Do you use motivation when basketing?

Certainly not in the beginning, from May and especially from Bourges is important to us. So in the beginning they don't get together, now in national races they only see each other for a short time. The duration is 10 minutes to a maximum of 45 minutes. When they come home they also separate very quickly in the beginning, when most of the pigeons are home they are already separated. When they fly a national flight it is with an easy flight in the evening that they split up and otherwise the next morning in the morning.

At the end of the season we sometimes dare to leave them together for a day with straw and nest mats so that they can go their own way when basketing. We also have good experiences with this.

How hard do the pigeons train?

The pigeons always only fly once a day, but this is a solid training, after which they can always stay in the aviaries in front of the racing lofts during the day. When they enter in the late afternoon they get their first grit and half an hour after that their feeding. Another important thing is a fixed candy mix that they get every evening at 7.30 pm (from Monday to Thursday).

The pigeons have so far raced 2x Momignies, 2x Soissons, 2x middle distance, Bourges and Argenton one after the other. During that warm summer weekend they flew Soissons, but this was honestly not easy, the pigeons were not very fresh when they came home. But the following week they flew Issoudun and they were fresh when they arrived. So you see what pigeon game is. After Issoudun they got a week of rest for Gueret and hopefully La Souterraine to be able to play one after the other.

Coaching

The pigeons are fed here with Vanrobaeys and Matador mixtures during the racing season. We mainly use Sport Vanrobaeys and Start Matador at the beginning of the week. If the pigeons get a week of rest, we pass this on 50/50 throughout the week. The racing hens do get Lady Mix Vanrobaeys because hens have to get slightly different mixtures than cocks.

Towards the basketing we switch to Turbo Energy Matador, first this is 50% on Wednesday and the day of basketing this is 100%.In terms of guidance, we are in weekly contact with Bert Penne from Winners, who draws up our schedules. We are fully following his advice. In addition, we use Recovery and Carbosol from Vydex.
Medically we try to respond quickly, so the racing pigeons always receive yellow drops over the food for disinfection when they return home. In the spring they always got a cure for tricho and airways together (usually after disconnecting the pigeons, 3 weeks before the season). In addition, we sometimes add a trichopil to the racing pigeons, but this is max. 2 x per season. We use Pro Smoke to disinfect the loft, which we also do twice per racing season to have the racing lofts completely clean.

Agy, Robert and Pablo, congratulations on this great victory from the entire HERBOTS TEAM.
